Ferrite Magnets

Ferrite lodestones were discovered millennia ago when stones were found that would magically exhibit invisible forces. Today’s ferrite magnets are an improvement on that basic material. These can be “soft” or “hard” types that exhibit different magnetic coercivities.

Ferrite magnets, aka ceramic magnets, are made by mixing and firing iron oxide (Fe2O3) and one or more metallic oxides, such as Strontium, Manganese, Nickel, or Zinc oxide.

Ferrites materials are physically hard, brittle and inexpensive. Ferrites or ceramic magnets can be found in many low-cost household & industrial products ranging from refrigerator magnets to high energy industrial motors. The most common ferrite permanent magnet material is Strontium ferrite (SrO)-6(Fe2O3).
